Good agreements are built on trust, and trust comes more easily when both of you know what has been agreed. Here are some simple tips that make it safer to rent, borrow and give away.

Before you agree

  • Read the listing carefully. Check the condition, known faults, accessories, price, deposit and how the item is collected or delivered.
  • Agree on everything in Laandet. Use the messages in Laandet, so that you both have an overview of what has been agreed.
  • Check the profile. See when the other person became a member, and read any reviews. Remember that a new profile without reviews does not mean that anything is wrong.
  • Do not share more than necessary. Only share your exact address once the agreement has been confirmed, and only with the person you have an agreement with.

Payment – stay alert

  • Laandet never accepts money and never sends payment links.
  • Pay directly to the person you have an agreement with, preferably when you meet. Use cash or Vipps, for example.
  • Never pay via links you receive in messages. Never give out BankID codes or card details.
  • Are you being pressured to pay before you meet, or to pay in an unusual way? Don't do it. Report the message.

At handover

  1. Turn up as agreed. Agree on a place that suits you both. It can be a public place if the item is easy to bring along.
  2. Look at the item together. Walk around it and look for scratches, dents and other damage.
  3. Test that it works. Start the engine, switch on the machine or inflate the board. Check that everything works.
  4. Take photos in Laandet. Take overview photos from several sides, close-ups of any damage and a photo of the serial number if there is one.
  5. Go through the accessories. Check the list in the agreement: charger, keys, straps, vest and so on.
  6. Give a short introduction. The owner explains how to use the item safely, and what the renter should watch out for.
  7. Confirm “Condition at handover” in Laandet. Do you disagree with the description? Write it down before you take the item with you.

While the item is rented out

  • Only use it as you have agreed, and follow the instructions for use.
  • Do not lend it on to others unless the owner has said yes.
  • Store it safely and in a dry place, and lock it away if needed.
  • If something happens, speak up straight away. It is much easier to find a solution when you talk to each other early.
  • If you are going to be late, say so before the deadline runs out, and agree on a new time.

At return

  1. Clean the item to a reasonable extent, unless you have agreed otherwise.
  2. Look at the item together, and test that it works.
  3. Take new photos from the same angles as at handover.
  4. Check that all the accessories are included.
  5. Record “Condition at return” in Laandet. Choose the option that fits:
    • Returned without remarks
    • Returned with normal wear and tear
    • Returned with a recorded deviation
  6. Settle the deposit. If the owner has no claim, the deposit must be paid back now.

Remember:

The rented item must be returned in at least as good condition as at handover, except for normal wear and tear resulting from agreed and proper use. («Leiegjenstanden skal leveres tilbake i minst like god stand som ved overtakelsen, med unntak av normal slitasje som følge av avtalt og forsvarlig bruk.»)

What is normal wear and tear?

Giving away

  • Describe honestly what is wrong with the item. Broken or dangerous items must not be described as safe and in good order.
  • The giver chooses who gets the item. It is fine to say no.
  • Confirm the handover in Laandet once the item has been collected.
